Asger Thomsen Quartet is a Copenhagen based contemporary jazz band featuring some of the most promising young improvisors on the scene from Poland, Lithuania, and Denmark. The band was brought together by bass player Asger Thomsen in order to explore the complementary tension between strict composition and repetitive structures against loose and textural improvisation. While clearly being inspired by the history of free jazz, the music is driven by eclecticism and draws parallels to creative forces from all over the world. In 2018 they released their debut EP ‘Ham On Rye’ and later the same year they will release their first full-length album on the Danish label Centrifuga.
